**** Sadly, aubergin has been closed again. ****
Ever since Anna Uimonen was a child she loved to sew. Wherever she traveled she took her sewing machine in her backpack. Today, she and her friend Nevean Holmes run their own fashion label aubergin. A reference to their favorite color, aubergin stands for clear cuts, fancy pattern and a fresh feminine style. Designed on Mallorca and manufactured mainly in Portugal. The two women launched their first womenswear collection in 2015 and soon became regulars at the prestigious runway shows. Recently they opened their own store in Palma.
All designs, pattern and samples are made in aubergin’s atelier in the back of aubergin store. The small workplace holds everything needed for tailoring, including said sewing machine and countless rolls of sewing patterns. It’s the place where Anna and Nev are “creating stories of sustainable fashion”. In contrast to a growing fast fashion industry aubergin aims at timeless designs. Their fabrics are sourced from European factories, the production is based on ethical values and high-quality craftsmanship.
Whether it is aubergin’s colorful flowing dresses, oversized jackets or straight shirts – all designs reflect a great care and passion for the detail. A small frill, a pleat, or an asymmetrical seam, some small extra you only notice on second sight. I love the way you can combine their clothes, creating new, often bold styles. While the sleeveless vest pimps up every plain outfit the chiffon dresses are most beautiful by themselves or with a vintage jeans jacket. Just now Anna and Nev returned from the 080 Barceona Fashion Week where they presented aubergin’s SS20 designs. Coastal-inspired colors with blue at center stage, slim yet flowing silhouettes and a refined mix and match of pattern.
