Hawaii meets Mallorca: The Duke in Santa Catalina offers a blend of Asian, Mediterranean and South American cuisine. In a laid back atmosphere of a driftwood beach bar among surfers. Patiently waiting for the next big waves or hungry from riding them all day. The chips de yuca con salsa de miso that we got for a start with our drinks tasted hot and spicy like a sunset at the Pacific coast. But this was just the beginning of a marvelous dinner.
The Duke offers various ceviches, the signature one with a sauce of peas. Its intense green is a delight for the eyes and the palate alike. I chose wok teriyaki con salmon as a main and dived into the waves of flavors. The food and the atmosphere of this restaurant call for a beer or a cocktail but The Duke also got a pretty good choice of wines both from Mallorca and the peninsula. We finished our tropical meal with a delicious piece of coconut cake para compartir.
Eat well, travel often. The motto of Juanjo and Ronny speaks from the heart of their guests from all over the world. The two founders opened The Duke ten years ago, the same time that I settled down in Palma. Their restaurant has been a natural part of the culinary scene so much that only now I noticed that I had not included The Duke in my blog, yet. High time to make this up – and con amor, how the Hawaiian greeting „Aloha“ translates into Spanish.
