**** Sadly, SASU Palma closed in December 2023. ****
We all love stories. And we love things with a story to remember, a story that makes them unique and precious to us. Like the beautiful items from small European brands you find at SASU, the bright design store next to Palma’s Plaça Major. A great place to discover something that you have not actually been looking for, to treat yourself or a friend. Passersby curiously cast a glance at the window display. Don’t hesitate to step inside and talk to Geni. She is happy to tell you where each product comes from and what makes it special.
For example the metallic bags from Uashmama. Made from washable paper they are designed and manufactured in Italy and come in many fancy styles and sizes. The family behind the brand had a long history in shoemaking but their factory as so many others was affected by the serious crisis of the European shoe industry. The family used its expertise to develop the innovative concept of the paper bags for a fresh start. My favorite at SASU is the large duffel bag, ready to go for the weekend.
Of course the store has a story, too. Sabine Inama and Susanne Hepp have been friends for a long time. They had been dreaming of running their own store since they were young. A store where they would present modern designs for daily use, things you love to surround yourself with. Life seemed to have other plans for them but finally their dream came true. After a successful start in their Austrian hometown Sabine and Susanne – hence SASU – opened their second store in Palma, this summer. Beyond timeless designs and high quality, sustainability and fair working conditions are what matter to them.
Like the coveted skin care from Oliveda. All products of the small German label are 100% natural and solely made from olives. Or take Secrid, a young brand from Holland that designs wallets and cardholders with an intricate mechanism to retrieve your tarjetas. If you fancy Scandinavian design just like I do, you’ll find more cool stuff at SASU. Fragile jewelry from Pilgrim, household items from Stelton or condiments from Nicolas Vahé.
