**** Sadly, Amen closed for good, recently.****
Costa d’en Brossa is one of those narrow streets that are easy to miss in the maze of Palma’s old town. But it’s worth finding your way around. You’ll discover a couple of small independent stores, a welcome change to the ubiquitous monobrands. They put chairs on the street – just sit down and pause, or chat with the store owners. One of my recent favorites is Amen, a sophisticated concept store with a unique selection of bags, jewelry and extraordinary accessories from European designers.
It-pieces like those colorful pouches from Wouf, Barcelona, or the little pins from Macon & Lesquoy in Paris that come in fancy shapes. One is a tiny camera and would be a real nice treat for my photographer! Or the small neon colored furushiki shiki vinyl cases from Dutch designer Samira Boon. They fold up without any seams or buttons. Not to mention the great selection of Comme des Garçons perfumes. My ultimate choice: Concrete – the perfect scent for a long night out.
And I adore the beautiful leather bags from Atelier Marchal: classic, often plain pieces made from wonderful soft leather, designed in a distinctive style. The label was founded by the store owners Ana and Joseph Garcia Marchal in Barcelona in 1999. They do all the designs and their bags are carefully handcrafted on the peninsula. Ana also has her own collection of jewelry, a line of beautiful gold plated earrings and a second, really extraordinary selection made from colorful painted leather. With stores in Brussels and Paris Amen Palma is now their third outlet. All three share the same cool design – white tiles and acrylic glass, unmistakable Amen.
