There are more than 300 sundials in Palma, one for every sunny day on the island. One of my favorites is located next to Palma’s Capitanía Marítima, the maritime customs building at Carrer del Moll. On first sight, it’s a plain round made of stone that many people pass without even noticing. The real fancy part: it only tells the time if you pose as the hand. A plate on the base explains how it works.
This weekend it’s clock change, again, and we’ll be given back the hour that we were told to save at the end of March. We all know that there is no such thing as saving time. I am going to squander this extra hour, lavishly spend it on a long night out while all the sundials are sleeping.
