**** Rockbeach has closed its store again.****
My first encounter with the big signature crab was at Las Gracias. Marta is a great local trend scout and she likes to introduce young Mallorcan brands in her store. Now there was this iconic animal on a small selection of really cool soft t-shirts on her racks, often single pieces that somehow looked like precious prototypes. Rock Beach, the label said, but I had never heard of it or seen it somewhere else.
Just now, Rock Beach opened its first store downtown Palma. I was surprised to discover that there is much more than soft and fancy print shirts: the summer collection features a small but beautiful selection of regular shirts and cotton sweaters for men, women and kids alike, a few dresses and a very stylish jumpsuit plus some hip basic bikinis and shorts. Almost all of Rock Beach’es pieces are made in Spain, and they come at reasonable prizes. „Just wait until our fall collection comes in“, Marina, who works in the store, announced.
Rock Beach started out as a private initiative – a few people from the Balearic islands who liked to design shirts that were inspired by their own lifestyle: a profound love for the Mediterranean and an appreciation for quality and style. „We’re local“, Rock Beach’s paper shopping bag says. I like! The word Mediterraneamente, by the way, was stolen from an Estrella Damm ad. For me the perfect term to describe the Mediterranean state of mind.
