Even if you have seen many lovely patios, the one of Maria and Teresa Solivella is very special. The two sisters run fabulous Ca na Toneta. I had heard about the restaurant ever so often, and friends kept recommending it to me all the time. But I don’t own a car, and Caimari is a little ways from Palma. I had already passed the beautiful tranquil village at the foot of the Tramuntana on my bike trips to the Lluc Sanctuary until I finally had the chance to spend an evening at the restaurant – and it was unmatched.
Having lunch or dinner at Ca na Toneta is more than just eating a tasty meal, it’s more of an all-embracing experience. You feel at home the moment you walk through the narrow door of the former dwelling and through its small rooms, all furnished with great care and love for the fancy, yet tasteful detail. An then there’s the terrace – wow! The Mallorcan Artist Albert Pinya painted the white washed walls with witty and somehow subversive murals that make you dine among the most interesting characters and baskets full of fruit and vegetables. „Just Believe“, says a wall, or, most adequately „Food for Thought“.
And then there’s the food on your plate, of course. Maria and Teresa have restored some basic, yet precious ideas in their kitchen: they cook with regard to the seasons and with fresh local, ecologically grown produce, mostly from their own garden. They rediscovered traditional recipes and developed their very own, passionate cuisine. Every guest is served a wonderful and quite unique six-course-meal, that changes weekly, including soup, the famous coca (a flatbread with different toppings), fish, meat, and desert! Time to slow down and enjoy. The magic of the place will carry you away.
