No Christmas without turrón. Few people, though, know that the traditional sweet is of Arabic origin. Typically made from almonds, honey, sugar and egg white. But there are many variations and different recipes. Last but not least, you get turrón soft or hard, just as you like it.
Emblematic bakeries like Forn Fondo proudly offer homemade turrón. And you know the Christmas season has begun when Can Miquel opens up a whole display for their turrón casero. If you want, you can create your own by adding pistachios, peanuts or hazelnuts, cinnamon, lemon or orange zest, or candied fruit, maybe.
Here’s a rather simple recipe, using 250g almonds, 125g honey, 100g sugar, 1 egg and edible wafer paper. Heat the honey slowly, add the sugar and mix. Take the egg white and beat it before folding it into the mixture. Toast the almonds and add them, spread the mixture on a wafer and cover with another one. Leave it to cool and slice before serving.
Enjoy the calm days, the festive illumination, tasty food in good company. And of course, a piece of turrón every now and then.
Estilo Palma wishes you happy and peaceful holidays with your loved ones.
