The crystal clear Mediterranean is shimmering at your feet. A gentle breeze blows away the heat of the last summer days. Add a few tables with folding chairs, a couple of sun loungers and a shower on a wooden deck. What more does a decent beach bar need? Tabgha Chiringuito has all of it, and something even more special.
By having a coffee and a tostada or a pitcher of sangria and a snack you contribute to a good cause. The chiringuito solidario is run by Caritas and the profits go to a housing project for families in need. Nestled on the edge of Portals Nous the recently opened terrace with the white umbrellas is overlooking the harbor and the small beach all the way to Cabrera and Cap Blanc.
Not far from buzzing Palma and posh Port d‘Andratx life at Tabgha Chiringuito is quite different. The clock seems to tick a bit more slowly. Perhaps there are no clocks at all. The name Tabgha refers to the small town on the shore of the sea of Galilee where according to the Bible Jesus fed the starving people.
A mural by street artist Carolina Adán Caro visualizes the breaking of bread and the idea of sharing as a basic concept of humanity. Painted along the staircase to the Tabgha Chiringuito it points the way from the Ermita de Portals Nou at the top of the bay down to the beach bar. Reminding us that sharing is caring.
