Vida Meva Restaurante is a family business in the truest sense of the word. Not only because the restaurant is run by two sisters and one of their husbands. But above all because of the family atmosphere. Many regulars come here, but even new guests are greeted so warmly that they immediately feel at home. It’s as if you’ve been invited to dine with family or friends.
The atmosphere is casual but the food would stand up to fine dining. Hardly a surprise when you know that chef Toni Martorell worked with Marc Fosh for several years. In his open kitchen he conjures up a three-course lunch menu with different options every week. Meanwhile, Noelia and Gabriela Vidal, as welcoming hosts, take care of their guests’ wishes.
We started our lunch with a creamy pea soup with marinated salmon. Followed by arroz de pulpo, a tasty touch of sea. And crusted celery schnitzel with green apple, a great vegetarian choice. A plate of aromatic orange slices with honey, and a piece of most authentic New York Cheesecake, respectively, together with a café solo perfectly rounded off our meal.
The restaurant is tucked away in a quiet side street on the edge of Sa Gerreria, Palma’s former craftsmen quarter. The wide sidewalk of the narrow street even offers space for a terrace. From a table outside in the shade of the awning you can watch the neighborly goings-on. But at Vida Meva, places inside are just as coveted, so it’s wise to reserve beforehand.
In the evenings, however, the restaurant remains closed. Then it’s family time at home. Because in Catalan Vida Meva means „my life“. That’s what Noelia and Toni like to call their little daughter.
