If the door on Carrer Can Savella, a small side street just off Placa de Quadrado, is closed, you would never imagine the treasures hidden behind it. Alejandro G. Vizcarro’s art studio where he mainly works as a designer today, also holds a collection of his paintings and sculptures from the last decade. I am in love with his motives of men and the ocean – on first sight, they look like photographs from the seventies. Then you notice their peculiar appeal. And there is the portrait of a young man shaving… But have a look yourself.
When I asked Alejandro for his contact details he sat down at his wonderful old typewriter and typed me a unique business card that I now keep in my black Moleskine. If you look up Zavella 25 on facebook you will discover a couple of paintings that look familiar. And thats not due to the fact that you know who’s on them – Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Piet Mondrian. But because they are decorating the walls of L’ Ambigú, the wonderful small bar behind Santa Eulalia.
If you like Alejandro’s paintings as much as I do, you may want to take some home with you – he also sells them in the form of beautiful picture postcards. However, if you can afford to buy the real thing, please don’t hide it at home but hang it up in your cafe or store.
