A mountain pass is by definition a place of passage. For cyclists, however, often it‘s also a stop over. And Café Ca’n Topa is another good reason to climb up the serpentines to the Coll de Sóller. Anticipating a coffee break makes cycling even more fun. The route through the Tramuntana between Bunyola and Sóller is breathtakingly beautiful. I always marvel at the sweeping views over the bay of Palma and the orange valley.
At Café Ca’n Topa the oranges from the valley come freshly squeezed in a glass. Together with a savory or sweet snack. Homemade by Paula and Damian who have been welcoming cyclists, hikers and other passers-by up here for years. In fact, at 500 meters above sea level there are not that many cafes on the island, apart from the refugis.
497 meters, to be exact. Many cyclists love to take selfies in front of the Coll de Sóller sign. And a few are so fast that they almost miss the café. But the colorful jerseys and the cheerful babble of different languages on the terrace of Ca’n Topa reliably mark the top stop.
