When the sun sets at the horizon Son Terrassa comes to life. The family-run restaurant near Cas Concos clearly lives up to its name. Its beautiful terrace is the perfect location for a sunset dinner of traditional Mallorcan cuisine. A joyful place far away from everyday life for a special occasion or a night out with the family. Seated at white laid tables under lush Bougainvillea overlooking the southern part of the island.
When friends suggested to meet at Son Terrassa I was excited to get to know a restaurant that still is kind of an insider tip. We started with a plate of escalivada. The popular dish made of aubergine, red peppers and tomatoes was garnished with anchovies that added a nice salty touch. Even better tasted the raolas mallorquinas, a kind of croquettes. Usually filled with fish or vegetables, at Son Terrassa they got a most tasty version with spinach. The specialties of the house, though, are lamb and suckling pig, crispy roasted from the grill.
While you enjoy each course of the dinner at Son Terrassa the sun slowly sinks behind the hills of the Plà i Llevant. Bathing the blooming garden and the famous wine region in golden light. What a peaceful oasis. Reminding us of the charming rural Mallorca away from beaches and mountains, bustling villages or big hotels. In the blue hour you are ready for desert and coffee. And maybe a digestif, if only to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere a little longer with your friends. They even have nine guest rooms at Son Terrassa in case you are not yet ready to leave.
