On my Tramuntana hikes I have often passed Fornalutx. This time, the picturesque village was our destination. More precisely, the restaurant Es Turó which friends had chosen for a reunion. Already our table on the terrace surrounded by flowers was beautiful. And the view of the mountains simply breathtaking. Together with an authentic Mallorcan cuisine they made our afternoon at Es Turó special.
If you love sopa mallorquina Es Turó is your place. And if you haven’t yet tried this typical dish made of rustic bread, cabbage and other vegetables of the season, you should have it here. Contrary to what the name suggests, it is not a soup but a hearty stew eaten with a fork. The cod from the oven also came with loads of vegetables, Mallorcan style. While the shape of the dish reminded me of a mound, turó in Catalan, the restaurant is actually named after the neighboring hill.
The Busquet family has been running Es Turó for more than 25 years. Proudly, Xisca showed me the lush garden beneath the restaurant. The beautiful place nestled in the Tramuntana mountains reminds my friend Angela of a trip to the Amalfi coast. Strolling through the narrow streets of Fornalutx after our meal, we deeply inhale the scent of the orange trees, that blossom and bear fruit at the same time. The typical scent of the Sóller valley in springtime.
