Like giant sapphires, Cúber and Gorg Blau lie in the heart of the Tramuntana. Amid spectacular peaks that surround the reservoirs resembling prongs of a crown. Puig Major, Massanella, Tossal Verds, Cornador Gran. And the unmistakably pointed Puig de L’Ofre. The mountain top already in view my hike today starts with a stroll along the Cúber. Depending on the light, the water of the reservoir changes between intense turquoise and blue tones. And the wind sweeping through the karstic landscape can’t drown out the bells of the free-roaming sheep.

After a nice stretch through scented pine forest you reach the iron cross, the Creu de la Pau, overlooking the Cúber and the Northern Tramuntana. Take a few steps over the rocks, and you’ll enjoy a view of the Barranc de Biniaraix opening up all the way down to the Sóller valley. I could sit here forever and marvel at the beauty of the island. But the most exciting part of the tour, the climb to the top of the Ofre, is still ahead of me. 

For the last half an hour you better fix your gaze on the path. Because the way up is steep and rocky. On the last few meters you may also use your hands. And if you’re not already out of breath by then, the 360-degree panorama from the summit plateau will surely take your breath away.
