We brace ourselves for the winter with additional layers of clothes. The sheep in the Tramuntana and on the fields of Mallorca though wear wool all year round. And for a reason. Because wool keeps you warm when it’s cold outside and it keeps you cool during the heat of the summer. That’s why I got woolen shirts for hiking and cycling. But only recently I discovered Yuccs. The young Mallorcan brand uses the traditional material to manufacture exceptional sneakers.
The founder of Yuccs, Pablo Mas, aimed at developing the most comfortable shoes. And he did not choose just any wool but super fine merino from Spain. In fact, Pablo wants to change the industry and the way we consume. For Yuccs sustainability starts with the careful selection of each and every part of the production chain. Creating a shoe that can be worn as a sneaker without socks, that is light and comfortable like no other. A shoe you can wear all day and on different occasions. Because buying less is the first step to a more sustainable lifestyle.
In Yuccs’ office in Palma a small team coordinates the whole process from design to distribution. They focus on the sourcing of natural materials. Apart from merino wool Yuccs uses castor oil from Albacete to produce the soles of the shoes. Pablo and his colleagues know all partners in Spain who are involved in the production of each pair of shoes. As a customer I love this transparency. Moreover, wearing Yuccs really feels like walking on air. They are super comfortable and keep me warm every day, even this time of the year. And every step seems like a step forward.
