When we started writing about the best specialty coffee in Palma there were only few cafés in town. So you had to know of these rare places. Today, there are plenty of coffee shops and you need all the more guidance to find the really special ones. That’s why this year’s update of our Best Cafés focuses on four particular groups. Coffee shops with a beautiful terrace to enjoy a break in the bustling city. Urban eateries in bright spaces where you can grab a sweet or hearty snack and maybe get some work done. Neighborhood cafés with a unique atmosphere. And last but not least cycling cafés for a stop-over or to prepare for the next tour.
Coffee on the Terrace
1. Mistral
Mistral is probably the most sought-after specialty coffee brand on Mallorca. Sip a cup of freshly brewed coffee on the sunny terrace of Mistral Coffee House on Plaça Weyler, right next to the splendid former Gran Hotel. The cool café also serves sweet and hearty snacks.
2. Mama Carmen’s
Mama Carmen’s Coffee & Kitchen is a popular veggie place. A coveted breakfast café with tables outside on the plaza in Santa Cata. Here’s where you get some of the best mueslis in town with loads of fresh fruit. And Mama Carmen’s Coffee & Bakery just a block away is a mecca for vegans.
3. Bacan
The family-run café is a favorite place for breakfast and brunch in the Bonaire neighborhood. Offering homemade pastries as well as freshly prepared toasts and bowls. When the sun’s out, Bacan’s small terrace in the yard is a nicely quiet place to enjoy your coffee.
4. La Molienda Bisbe
The terrace of La Molienda Bisbe is located on a small corner plaça with its own flamboyant tree and fountain. The cozy café offers a tasty selection of sandwiches, toasts, salads and egg dishes as well as biscuits. Accompanied by La Moliendas own roast.
Neighborhood Cafés
5. Riutort
If you prefer lunch to laptop, you’ll love Café Riutort. And its urban style, reminiscent of Berlin or Barcelona. Regulars come for the relaxed atmosphere and the mostly vegetarian menu. It is not only called formula, it is a true formula for happiness.
6. Café Caravana
Even on a cloudy day the colorful bar and the vintage tiles at Cafè Sa Caravana make you smile. Locals start the day with a quick coffee, families drop in with their groceries from the nearby eco market. Maybe even strumming a few chords in the kids corner.
7. Hotto Coffee Lab
Take a seat at the square large table. Get some work done with a coffee at the window bar. Or make yourself comfortable on the wooden steps in the corner. In any case, be sure to try a sando, the Japanese sandwich Hotto Coffee Lab is famous for.
8. Surry Hills
Surry Hills is the place for friends of down under coffee culture with an Argentinian twist. Reflected in the brunch menu and sweets like the delicious alfajors.
Urban Eateries
9. Rosevelvet Eatery
The interior is unmistakable clean and minimalist, looking like a mixture of gallery and bar. Even the dishes got a little twist, like the Not Turkish Egg. Rosevelvet Eatery is the only specialty coffee shop with their own bakery and patisserie. And you can taste the difference.
10. La Molienda Archiduc
The pioneers of the specialty coffee scene in Palma serve their own roast, today. At their light-flooded café La Molienda Arxiduc they also offer a daily changing lunch special and homemade sweets.
11. Federal Café
Australian coffee culture in Pere Garau. At Federal, you find late revelers indulging in a savory breakfast while young parents nurse a strong coffee, comforting their toddlers. Digital bohemians next to neighbors chatting over a beer. All at the same time and at the same place.
12. Batx
The latest addition to Palma’s coffee scene is Batx in Santa Catalina. Caffeine and the sunlight streaming through the large windows will give you a kick for the day. The retro charm of the interior invites you to linger. Regulars and visitors come here for a bowl or a bagel, for breakfast or lunch.
Cycling Cafés
13. Plumo
In the cozy neighborhood café on beautiful Plaça Quadrado you can rent or buy vintage bikes. Or have your own bike tuned up. Plumo also offers social rides and runs. And maybe the best specialty coffee in Palma apart from the roasters.
14. Rapha
Actually, the merger of cycling and coffee in Palma started with Rapha Mallorca. With a collection of cycling apparel, specialty coffee and a nice terrace on Plaça del Rosari. The small square that has since become the meeting point for cyclists in town.
15. Reverb
Reverb is a fancy bike store with a large open workshop and a spacious café. Grab a seat at the long social table, on the Chipperfield sofa or at one of the smaller tables. There’s specialty coffee, of course, a small menu with daily snacks, and social rides.
16. La Finca Corner
Sebastian, owner, barista and cycling enthusiast, made his small coffee shop at La Rambla popular with avid road cyclists in no time. No apparel or gear at La Finca Corner, but lots of passion and talking shop.
