Sometimes it just has to be pizza. However, not any pizza. Aficionados go for the Neapolitan. Not only because pizza was invented in Naples. But also since the original with the thick crispy crust and the soft, thin base is second to none. Fortunately, there are a few places where you get authentic pizza in Palma, today. Prepared right in front of you by a pizzaiolo and served straight from the hot stone oven. Here are six of the best pizzerias in town.
1. Dadalìa
You can tell that the founders of Dadalìa love what they do. In addition to the classic Neapolitan pizzas there are always changing specials on the menu. You can also choose between popular pasta dishes and scrumptious variations. The bright red window frames are reminiscent of perfectly ripe tomatoes. And sitting near the pizza oven is like sitting around a campfire with friends. No wonder a famous chef from Edinburgh loves this pizza place as much as we do.
2. Mozzatura
It was Mallorcan chef Santi Taura who recommended Mozzatura. The pizzaioli from Naples have been perfecting their recipes for 35 years, offering a wide selection of classic and gourmet pizzas, today. Baked in an impressive Sorrentino’s stone oven at the back. The pizzeria is particularly popular with locals and a great place for a meal with family and friends. Film lovers often come by after a screening at CineCiutat, Palma’s popular arthouse cinema in neighboring S’Escorxador.
3. Santa Chiara
Citing the famous „mano di Dio“ Santa Chiara not only refers to Diego Maradona, a true Neapolitan legend. The two family-run pizza places in Palma are also proud of their handmade Pizza Napoletana contemporanea, a modern reinterpretation of the classic pizza. Of course there’s also antipasti, salads and pasta. Best enjoyed outside on their terrace on Carrer Blanquerna or on Plaça Raimundo Clar.
4. A Gogò Pizza Bar
Whether you pick up a pizza at the small bar in Sa Gerreria or enjoy one at the pizzeria near Santa Eulalia, A Gogò is one of the best pizzerias in Palma’s old town. Regulars love the artisan pizza with a modern twist. In addition to the classics, the menu offers several specialties following the season and the flavors of the island. Plus a nice choice of vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free options.
5. Il Porticato
With their red-and-white checkered tablecloths under the old arches Il Porticato transfers you right back to midcentury Italy. And what you see is what you get. Authentic cuisine and value for money in a warm and friendly family atmosphere. The pizza rucola is nicely thin and extra crispy. And the spaghetti puttanesca taste like they were served right at the waterfront, even though Il Porticato is deeply rooted in the heart of Palma.
6. Piadina e Vino
Speaking of waterfront, at Piadina e Vino you can indeed enjoy your pizza con vista mare. The small Italian restaurant is located directly on the Molinar beach promenade, just beyond the emblematic wind rose. The perfect place for a lunch break during a stroll by the sea or a bike ride along the Bay of Palma. Their signature pizza with fresh tomatoes, basil and mozzarella di bufala is always a good choice. But there’s a lot more typical Italian dishes on the menu.
