A couple of great restaurants in Palma excel at combining local products and global flavors. One of the most exciting fusions of different traditions is Nikkei cuisine. Nagami in Santa Catalina is the place to experience this blend of Japanese and Peruvian elements. From sushi to ceviche, from gyoza to shiromi. A touch of Pacific in the Mediterranean and an example how immigrants add to the culture of their new home country.
Nikkei is the name given to people of Japanese origin in Peru. As they used the rich culinary tradition of Japan and the ingredients available in Peru to create new dishes, Nikkei became the name for this special fusion cuisine.
Culinary Journey
Why not start your culinary journey at Nagami with a nicely chilled kirin ichiban. The popular Japanese beer is a perfect companion for a ceviche that brings you right to the markets of Peru. Followed, for example, by a kyuri roll with salsa de wasabi y yuzu that surprises with its fresh sour-tart notes.
Shiromi anticuchero is grilled white fish and vegetables with anticuchera sauce. Often referred to as a Peruvian kind of BBQ sauce, anticuchera has a lot more spicy flavors.
New Wave
Dining at a table in front of the blue octopus while watching the chef preparing the sushi at the open bar delights all of your senses. And the service by co-owner Kasia is friendly and attentive, dedicated without ever being intrusive. Making Nagami a perfect place for a date with your loved one as well as a night out with friends.
Na means “wave” in Japanese, and the following syllables are the beginnings of the two chefs’ names, Gabriel and Miguel. With Nikkei cuisine, Nagami has definitely brought a new culinary wave to Santa Catalina.
