The summer houses of S’Estaca are a popular destination during vacations. But the magic perhaps unfolds even more out of season when the hamlet has fallen into hibernation. A beautiful hike leads off the beaten track along the coast, offering magnificent views of the Mediterranean. And the famous rock of Sa Foradada regularly emerges from the sea like a giant whale.
If you start the tour at Can Costa, the circular route will take you back to the picturesque restaurant at the end. In the beginning, the path winds its way through shady woodland down towards the sea. Along the way, a mirador beckons with great vistas of the coast, and of the impressive home of Michael Douglas.
Little by little, the American actor turned the former residence of Archduke Ludwig Salvator into his home. Recently, he even celebrated his 80th birthday with other octogenarians of nearby Valldemossa to which S’Estaca officially belongs. So it’s easy to imagine him strolling along this secluded stretch of the Tramuntana.
The small sheltered bay of S’Estaca is the perfect place for a break. A picnic perhaps, or a quick dip in the natural pool. At this time of year the sea is even warmer than in spring. In any case, it’s fun to dangle your feet in the crystal-clear water for a while before setting off on the ascent.
The path is now narrow and exposed in some places. An impressive passage leads along high rocks. Watch your step, surefootedness is particularly important here.
Further on, you’ll pass several miradores with spectacular vistas again before you finally cross the street and walk through holm oak forest to the Ermita de la Trinitat.
The hermitage is a historical gem, yet still a peaceful, spiritual place. A site to rest, reflect a little and enjoy the silence.
Provided you are not too hungry and in no hurry to return to Can Costa. Where the journey begins and ends, the red TIB buses connect the remote area with Deià and Sóller, Valldemossa and Palma.
