You wouldn’t be too surprised to meet Steve Zissou here, played by Bill Murray. And indeed, there are a couple of references to Wes Anderson and his movie „The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou“ next to the bar at Patrón Lunares in Santa Catalina.
Take Mallorcan tradition, add contemporary style, dedicated people, great Mediterranean food, and a unique atmosphere. No wonder, Patron Lunares is so popular.
You can dine outside on the sidewalk in the center of the former fishermen’s quarter. But the interior of the cantina, the large, airy room with its extraordinary maritime decor is truly special.
True to tradition, the menu focuses on fish and seafood. A legendary starter though, is the guacamole. The ingredients come in a mortar and you prepare the mole yourself at the table.
The ceviche is special, too, with a tasty, slightly hot avocado sauce. In case you’re craving some meat, the Burger at Patron Lunares is always an option. And you shouldn’t miss a piece of tarta de lemon or an ensaimada with your café solo.
Silently observed by a series of large-format paintings of fishermen that stretch along the wall. Among them portraits of the new owners as well as of Patrón Lunares who actually existed and whose real name was Miguel Bonet Oliver.
One of the best and youngest trawler captains of Mallorca at his time. Miguel stood up for his neighborhood, committed to hard work and social responsibility. The children in Santa Catalina loved him for his kind and generous way.
For more than a century Santa Catalina had a lively community center, a haven for fishermen, workers, rope- and shoemakers that provided health care, advice and a sense of belonging.
As much as the neighborhood has changed over the years, the place still attracts a diverse crowd. Locals as well as guests of all ages and from all over the world, couples on a first date, birthday parties and business people meet at Patrón Lunares, the restaurant which is now the heart of the barrio.
