„Connecting“ is the title of a current exhibition at Casal Solleric. It could as well be the motto of this extraordinary house of contemporary art. The museum is located in one of the most beautiful buildings on magnificent boulevard Es Born. Kind of a gem hidden in plain sight. The second you step into the Baroque manor you leave downtown Palma, its busy crowd and traffic noise behind. And enter a world of its own.
The spacious patio with its old cobblestones and graceful arches reveals the grandeur suggested by the unique facade. A flight of steps with a wrought-iron banister leads you to the first floor, the planta noble. Imagine what it was like to live in a place like this, back in the late 18th century when the casal was built as a private residence for a wealthy Palmesan family.
Actually, Casal Solleric still gives you an impression of this fantasy. From a drawing room in purple red a half open door reveals a former bedroom. But wandering further through the ancient door frames you instantly get connected with the present.
Current Exhibtions
Casal Solleric proudly presents an eclectic and diverse style of exhibitions. From famous artists to lesser known. Intriguing and often dedicated to a specific topic. Like „Los olvidados“ by Patrick Hamilton, five works of art made of tools. Representing the world of construction, of builders and carpenters. In red and black, colors referring to the labor movement in the 20th century.
Or „Connecting“ by Sandra Baía. Her installations mark the plasticity of architecture. They contain elements of illusion and reality. Thus encouraging the visitor to enter into a dialogue between what you see and how you understand what you see.
And in addition to these works that are challenging yet approachable at the same time, there is currently an exhibition of comics and cartoons. Including works of famous street artists like Abraham Calero.
The entry to Casal Solleric is free – a standing invitation to discover contemporary art.
