Most people coming to Port d‘Andratx aim for the iconic bay. Only few though know about this oasis of calm and tranquility just a few minutes from the seafront. Young and old, locals and visitors meet on the terrace of Vent de Tramuntana. And enjoy lunch or dinner in the lush garden under tall palm trees. Curiously observed by one of the chickens roaming between the tables outside.
The family-run restaurant is famous for its authentic Spanish and Mallorcan cuisine. In addition to fish and meat dishes there are different types of arroz, paella and fideuà. Vent de Tramuntana also got a good selection of wines from the island and from the peninsula. And some French champagne, in case you want to celebrate a special occasion.
The three-course menu was a wonderful combination of flavors. Starting with a millefeuille with walnuts that was nicely crispy and creamy. Followed by the fish of the day, prepared a la Mallorquina, on a bed of fresh vegetables, potatoes and pine nuts. And the lemon meringue tart was a perfect ending of the meal.
But after postre and café we just stayed a bit longer. Because Vent de Tramuntana is one of those places where Mallorcans love to enjoy a good sobremesa. While there is no equivalent word in English, the concept is simple: instead of leaving right after finishing your plates you keep talking, tell and listen to stories and have a good time together.
