Sunlight filters through the vines, bright green against a clear blue sky. The murals on the whitewashed patio walls are as colorful as the food on handmade ceramic plates. Menu and atmosphere at Ca na Toneta are a feast for the senses. At the same time the restaurant is an oasis of tranquility. The hospitality of Maria and Teresa Solivellas and their team make you feel at home right away.
The menu is composed of small refined dishes based on traditional Mallorcan recipes. Like creamy almond soup, and anchovies with almond praline on Indian cress. Arranged like a small piece of art. Black artichoke with fine orange slices and prawns. Or rice with bay aioli and cuttlefish. Six delicious courses with the best of the season, organically grown and harvested in the Solivellas gardens. Or sourced locally from suppliers they have known and worked with for many years.
Nestled in Caimari, the small idyllic Tramuntana village, Ca na Toneta was established in 1996 by Catalina Rotger. Five years later, her daughters took over. Since then, Maria has become a widely renowned chef. And Teresa, the restaurant’s maître, shows the same attention to detail. The love of beautiful things is evident. From decoration to apparel to attentiveness of the staff. She proudly presents the small store next door with a selection of wines from the island and beautiful handicrafts from local artisans.
Recently, we went to Ca na Toneta with friends from France. And over lunch completely forgot about time. Just enjoyed that unique lightness that you only find in rare places.
