Palma is celebrating, this weekend. It is Nit de l’Art. And not just any. This year it’s the 25th anniversary of the most popular event of Mallorca’s contemporary art scene. Galleries and museums open the doors and invite the public to selected exhibitions of international artists. Strolling through the narrow streets of the old town in the evening you experience the creative energy of the city.
The mild late summer night provides a perfect backdrop for this special event. From Thursday on, most exhibition spaces opened their doors for numerous pre-openings, guided gallery tours and discussion events. The highlight however, the official Nit de l’Art 2021, takes place tonight. Wherever you go there are parties and receptions, life music and chatting.
Numerous bars, stores and hotels in Palma joined in the celebrations with their own shows, live performances or installations in the streets. Like „Behind the Bean“ at Mistral Coffee House. Showing cool black-and-white portraits of the owners of the best specialty coffee places in Palma. Or the collective exposition of various street artists in the private patio of Zon.
Frederic Pinya, director of Galeria Pelaires and president of Art Palma Contemporani, the association of galleries, is very happy with the turnout. And with a smile he remembers the first Nit de’l Art. His father was one of the founders and young Frederic was already involved. „At that time it was only a small local event, but I was working like a slave.“
If you couldn’t make it to this year’s Nit de l’Art you can still visit the exhibitions. Most of them run through all of October or even early November. And then we can already look forward to the Art Palma Brunch in March next year.
