**** Sadly, Pan de Mar closed again at the end of October, 2022. We will badly miss the delicious bread – and the wonderful people of the bakery. ****
The smell of freshly baked bread lured me into the narrow side street of Carrer del Sindicat. And the bread I found not only tastes as good as it smells. There is also a wonderful story behind the newly opened bakery. Because Pan de Mar satisfies hunger twice. The idea behind the non-profit initiative is to help people in need due to the Covid pandemic. Thanks to their sponsors the bakery creates jobs for those who lost theirs and supports the food banks Tardor and Zaqueo.
Just a few days ago Pan de Mar launched the first socially responsible bakery in the heart of Palma. Head chef Alexis Cataldi proudly introduced the team. And the different types of artisan bread he bakes in the former pizza oven every day. Made from organic flour sourdough with lots of passion and know-how. Alexis also does goodies like scones or croissants that go nicely with a coffee.
Four jobs have already been created with the bakery. And more than 2,500 loaves of bread have been donated, so far. Supporters are still needed because the consequences of the crisis will continue to have an impact for quite some time. A donation account can be found on the website of Pan de Mar. And in the café you will find many delicacies at affordable prices so you can also contribute and do well by doing good.
