Today, bars and restaurants on Mallorca open their terraces again after long weeks of lockdown. And Palma looks as if suddenly awoken from hibernation. Except for the sun. But for once, people do not really care. And on time for the return of street life even Bar Cristal reopened its doors.
In the morning all tables are well occupied, already. A group of elderly ladies happily chatting over their cafés con leche, kids busy with their smart phones, a young couple absorbed in conversation. Everybody welcomed with a smile and a free chupito of fresh orange juice.
For decades, Bar Cristal had been a regular stop on busy Plaça d’Espanya, both for commuters and travelers. But three years ago, a drastic rent increase forced the owner to close down. Shortly after, Es Rebost opened a new restaurant in the premises. But it also had to close again in the wake of the pandemic.
The new owners, Rúben Fernández and his children Patricia and Rúben, want to continue the tradition of Bar Cristal. With a decent choice of coffee and tea, wine and beer, and all kinds of drinks and snacks. From llonguet to empanada to pa amb oli and other local dishes, all at affordable prices. The classic bar in the heart of the city, a place for everybody. Welcome back!
