“Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone.” I frequently think of Joni Mitchell’s famous lines these days in confinement. We are still allowed to do our groceries but we cannot even cook with friends anymore. Fortunately a few stores in Palma offer home delivery, now. So we can occasionally treat ourselves to something special. And at the same time support our local businesses who are struggling to survive. Let me introduce you to my personal favorites:
Es Badulake and Cafè Bella Juanita deliver a box full of fresh local vegetables to your home. Other seasonal produce or extras like eggs and potatoes as well as products from the colmado can be ordered additionally. Es Badulake also offers a three-course vegetarian menu every day that you can preorder.
Instead of its regular menu Canteen 14 does a different mouthwatering dish every day, including a vegetarian option. Scrumptious bowls like Indian coconut chicken korma, red lentil dal or chipotle Mexican bean rice. There are also home made sweets for dessert.
Delicacies from the oven delivers Fornet de la Soca, the fabulous bakery on Pl. Weyler. Tasty cocarrois, or empanadas stuffed with meat and peas, with fish or vegetables. There is a choice of bread, made from the traditional local flours, all in eco-quality. Or sweet robiols, the typical Mallorcan pastry. And Easter wouldn’t be coming up without lots of crispy crespells.
Fet a Sóller also introduced a delivery service on the island. Local fruit and vegetables, olive oil, almonds, wine, cheese and their famous ice cream. If you badly miss the orange harvest, here’s where you get a whole crate of freshly picked Canoneta. And for those who don’t live on Mallorca and cannot travel now, Fet a Sóller sends a taste of the island to many European countries.
What I miss most, though is the regular cup of coffee in one of my favorite bars. Drinking coffee at home is not the same but at least you can have a specialty coffee. Mistral keeps us up and alive by running their roastery and delivering the beans directly to our home. What a treat.
