There is music in the air. The smell of grilled food mingles with that of draught beer. Smoke from charcoal rises above Parc de la Mar where a diverse crowd of people is enjoying themselves and the summer vibes.
My first encounter with food trucks was years ago in New York. Then I got to know the street food festival in Vancouver and fell in love with the unique atmosphere right away. In Barcelona, Van Van Market has become the most popular food truck event. This weekend a special edition of Van Van takes place in Palma. And it is not just about street food.
At Van Van Palma you find some of the best chefs from Mallorca as well as from Barcelona. Santi Taura keeps the fire burning between the closing of his restaurants in Lloseta and the two new places in Palma. And Ariadna Salvador and Pau Navarro from Clandestí instantly got me with their fabulous pulled pork sandwich.
Van Van Palma opened Friday evening with live music from Joan Colomo. The street food festival continues over the weekend, with more live acts and djs rocking the turn table. Weather forecast is excellent, summer finally arrived on the island. What more do you need? A couple of friends, a drink and a snack, and maybe a little dance in the sun or the moonlight.
