The Plaça Major belongs to a Spanish city like milk to café con leche. But what used to be the center of local life for ages has often turned into touristic hotspots. From time to time though, the Plaça Major lives up to its myth, often thanks to music, dance, theater or political manifestations. Tonight, a small circus marginalized the hawkers and fast food restaurants at Palma’s Plaça Major as part of Fira B!
The Mallorcan company Atirofijo Circ mesmerized a curious audience with their show A S’Ombra. Children where watching with eyes and mouth wide open while the adults held their breath as Guillem Vizcaíno threw knifes at Mari Paz Arango. For a grand finale Mari climbed the trapeze and swung high into the night sky above the crowd on Plaça Major
For me circus is the purest form of magic. I could watch the artists’ performance for hours. Similar to watching passersby from a street café. But just as I prefer my coffee without milk I usually avoid the Plaça Major in Palma. Except maybe for special occasions like the one today, or the enchanting Christmas market with its wonderful illumination. But hey, fall has just begun and it still feels likes summer on Mallorca.
