**** Sadly, Rosita and Franer closed Rosevelvet Bakery in January 2024. ****
Cafe solo and cafe con leche have a long tradition in Spain. The bar or cafeteria around the corner is an essential part of the day to day life in your hood. Yet, coffee shops and cafés are a recent thing on Mallorca. In Palma, La Molienda and Rosevelvet Bakery were among the first to introduce specialty roasts. Cala Coffee followed recently. Being a coffee aficionado I am a regular at all of them. When I crave a homemade piece of cake with my coffee Rosevelvet is the place to go.
Rosita’s cheese cake, her tarta de limón, the carrot cake or the signature rose velvet cake are simply the best in town. Rosita and Franer opened Rosevelvet Bakery almost four years ago. I liked the touch of Williamsburg coffee shop and Manhattan deli combined with European baking tradition right away. Today, the kitchen also offers fresh salads and tostadas. Crunchy greens with mango, avocado and poached egg is my personal favorite. And Rosevelvet’s pastrami sandwich might be one of the best outside New York.
While chef Rosita expanded the menu barista Franer upgraded the coffee selection. He introduced drip coffee in addition to the varying premium roasts. Some of them come from The Barn, the famous coffee roaster in Berlin Mitte. Rosita and Franer love what they do and they like to adopt new concepts. Recently they came back from a trip to San Francisco full of impressions and fresh ideas. I am curious to find out how their inspiration adds another flavour to Rosevelvet Bakery.
