Once a year, Christine Roelandt opens up her studio to the public. What usually is her private workspace turns into an intimate showroom. From today until Saturday O Atelier presents an exquisite selection of clothing, jewelry, ceramics and home goods, all handmade on Mallorca.
Christine’s clothes bear a clear, clean cut signature and are made from natural materials like linen and cotton. Her dresses and blouses usually come in soft colors. Their designs remind me of French movies from the Nouvelle Vague. Yet there’s also a line of most simply cut pants and tops in red and blue that are only held by a plain ribbon. Together with a wide-brimmed straw hat the ideal outfit for a summer’s day.
Along with one of the beautiful wristbands by Gantha Formentera. One of the two creative heads behind the brand is Pilar. She told me how the bands are made knot by knot with semiprecious stones from all over the world. The way of presenting them is no less artful.
Actually there are a lot more details to discover at O Atelier like the paintings by Christine. Or the unique ceramics that Ana and Natalie present. Their brand Vimbi Vimbi stands for beautiful one-of-a-kind dishes in delicate shades and forms. I love their big bowls made of leaves from clay. Also the plates – none of them is exactly like the other.
Pop-up-stores have become really popular in the last few years but I still fancy their concept. The opportunity to meet the designers and likeminded visitors. Often at fabulous places you usually never have access to. Abandoned houses, secluded yards, or private places like Christine’s lovely O Atelier on Carrer Sant Feliu. Together with Isabel Dupré she turned it into Summer Pop Up.
