**** Sadly, Nuru closed its doors in the wake of the pandemic. ****
It’s only a couple of months since the opening but Nuru is already a new hot spot for Palma’s foodies. Lea recommended it to me when I met her at La Prinicpal lately, knowing that I’m always looking for new exciting places. Fortunately, she also recommended to make a reservation. So I was heading for Santa Catalina, the old fishermen’s quarter, today one of the city’s most popular nightlife areas. Nuru resides in one of those typical narrow two-story houses that have been beautifully refurbished over the last years.
Despite its rather cool interior, I felt comfortable right away. A staircase leads from the busy first floor with its open kitchen upstairs to a smaller, almost intimate dining room with colorful large-sized paintings and a wonderful rooftop terrace. Contemporary fusion is how Nuru describes its own kitchen – a glance at the small menu confirms it. While some places that go by this motto just offer a variety of dishes from different continents, Nuru really mixes Asian and Mediterranean concepts and ingredients to a new, both modern and tasty cuisine. Close your eyes and discover the herbs and spices while your mind wanders around the globe…
And the food really is extraordinary. We had salad of citrus fruit with beet root, tuna tagliatta, and grilled sea bass peruvian style – all in outstanding quality. The white Mallorcan wine went perfectly with the starter, only too bad we had finished our bottle before the main course even arrived. Okay, I know what you think, now, but it was a little different: The kitchen had a hard time preparing every dish freshly because the restaurant was fully booked for hours. However, it was worth all the waiting. And when the friendly staff promised it wouldn’t take a third bottle until we’d get our dessert, we decided to share a marvelous passion fruit and vanilla creme brûlée and had a café solo from Salar at the end. I’ll surely be back soon.
