**** After 10 years, Rosita and Franer decided to close their cafe in January 2024. ****
You already know: in New York something really cool is called „so Brooklyn“. And the most exciting part of Brooklyn is Williamsburg. Rosevelvet Bakery very much reminds me of the small European-style bakeries in Williamsburg not only New Yorkers fancy. As it happens, Rosita Planisi was inspired by her trips to New York when she decided to open her own café in Palma, naming it after a genuine American pastry: Rose Velvet Cake. Together with her husband Fran Caballero, she set up a place that makes you feel at home right away. And since Rosita is a master confectioner, you find the most delicious pastries in her bakery.
Whether it’s New York Cheese Cake, Banoffee Pie, Banana Bread, Apple Crumble, Muffins, Cup Cakes or Tarta de Limón (my personal favorite), it’s all heavenly and freshly made from the finest local ingredients. However, be prepared that the choice is different every day, so you’re always in for a surprise. One thing doesn’t change, however: Rosevelvet offers Café Salar’s premium brand, and it’s a pleasure to watch Fran carefully preparing a cup of coffee or a cappuccino. Aqui se cocina con amor says a sign next to the kitchen door. Sure enough, amor is the ingredient that makes all the difference.
I love to grab a seat at the long white table sharing it with other guests as if we were family. Observe the passers-by on narrow Carrer Missio, or just watch people coming in for a coffee-to-go. When it’s nice outside, the small patio in the backyard is a wonderful oasis in the city’s buzzing daily routine. Rosita and Fran intend to plant some herbs there, giving the place an even more secluded touch. Together with a book, newspaper or magazine and a cappuccino it’s the perfect local getaway.
