**** After the sudden death of Fabian Fuster, Canela’s chef, the restaurant was closed for a long time. But it reopened under new management, recently. We are looking forward to our next visit. ****
It took three attempts until eventually I got a table at Canela’s. Just the day before the opening, I had met the team finishing last preparations for their bistro. Now, I was curious to come back and see what it would be like. The newest restaurant on Carrer Sant Jaume has been a hot spot right from the start. And it is worth all the waiting: The atmosphere is stylish, yet comfortable – and the food is extraordinary.
It’s the freshness, the Asian touch, the creative combination and decorative presentation of the dishes that makes them outstanding. If you like fish and sea food you’ll fall in love with Canela, right away – whether it’s fried crabs, scallops, mackerel tempura, tuna tartar or ceviche (definitely my favorite!). The meat dishes are just as impressive, and all courses are rich in protein and low in carb. For desert, share una bola de nieve with your friend, and be surprised by a most delicious exotic snowball.
Formerly, Canela has been a store that sold condiments from all over the world. I like to imagine that the many different flavors are still being used today, in the fancy dishes of Canela’s kitchen as we all as in the great cocktails of it’s lovely, well-stocked bar. Anyway, here’s the place that reminds you once more that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
