**** Sadly, Gaudeix closed in early 2021. But Maria just reopened El Taller de Gaudeix near C/ Blanquerna. ****
So many times I have passed the small tapas bar next to the ensaimaderia on Carrer Can Sales. Until one day I spotted a free table outside and spontaneously decided to have my lunch on that tiny place in front of Gaudeix. What they call tapas and pintxos here is actually much more: Mallorquin cuisine at its very best.
So if there is no free table on the plaça, try to find one inside. The restaurant’s interior is even more lovely – from the map displaying bottles of Spanish and Portugese wine to the cooking pots serving as lampshades illuminating the well stocked bar. Maria and Cristina care for these details as much as for the extraordinary food.
The atun marinado en limon y hinojo (tuna marinated in lemon and fennel) is delicious – but it’s the sesame seeds in wasabi that make all the difference. I also love the warm scallops on a salad along with chilled tomatoes. A few slices of pan cristal and a glass of wine – muy rico.
