It is difficult to decide, where my story should start: with the special atmosphere of this wonderful place, the mouth-watering tapas, the great choice of drinks at the first bar, the fancy decoration, the second bar with the movie screen? Actually, it’s a bit of everything. But more than anything else it’s the people that make Molta Barra one of my favorite spots in town.
If you are hungry but running on a tight budget, go for the falafel and una caña. Or pick some of the pintxos from the bar and a glass of local wine. And wander around to have a closer look at the many carefully selected items that decorate every part of the wide room: balloons hovering beneath the ceiling, birds nesting on lampshades, old billboards, movie posters from the eighties and nineties, vintage leather trunks…
Sit down at the second bar facing the plain white wall that serves as a screen for the video beamer. Or have a seat at one of the small coffee house tables near the entrance and just watch the regular crowd shuffling in and out. You can easily spend a whole night that way without getting bored. The easiest way to meet people, of course, is to join the smokers who gather in front of Molta Barra for a chat. Always works for non-smokers, too.
