**** Sadly, Bros is closed again. ****
Once again a brilliant tip from Suso (addict): Bros – a small and casual restaurant in a side street of Sa Fabrica. Light wood, bright colors and the checkered tile floor create a modern yet cozy atmosphere.
The service of Juanpi (short for Jean-Pierre) and his colleague (type young-Robert De Niro) is very personal and attentive. The menu focusses on fresh mediterranean food, and it comes real quick from the kitchen. So just ask for una pausa, and you get all the time in the world to finish your bottle of 12 Volt, a tasty and relatively light red vine from the island.
The black angus burger comes with fantastic patatas bravas, an authentic alternative to french fries. The pasta with berenjenas (aubergine) couldn’t be better in Italy. And the chocolate cake with chocolate ice cream tastes like a perfect French coulant au chocolat.
This is what I really love about Palma, actually about whole Mallorca: Its culture is such a great Mediterranean blend! You get things from all over Spain, from Southern France, the long Italian coast, and last but not least from North Africa, with the Arabian being part of Mallorcan history for many centuries. Today, you can taste it in the many creative Mallorcan kitchens, like the one in Bros’.
One of the few times, by the way, I regretted to be a non-smoker. Of course, you cannot smoke inside. But there is a small roofed terrace next to the entrance, with two tiny but awesome tables and chairs coming right from the 50’s. A gorgeous place to enjoy a cigarette break, greeting the curios passers-by on the narrow sidewalk…
